Questions and discussion regarding the City 3 Directory

Directory Overview

Postby seanhogge » Fri Oct 19, 2007 3:33 pm

Here is a list of features that will eventually be implemented:

General Purposes:
The directory will be a location for the improv community to interact by sharing information and availability. Users can perform searches for venues and troupes that are seeking new performers (and vice versa). Contact information will be share to the extent that a user allows.

Performance information can be maintained by improvisers, venues and troupes such that the calendar will be perpetually up to date. Show additions will be automatically sent to kcstage.com, the Pitch, the KC Star web sites (if selected).

Directory information will be tied to forum profiles to the extent selected, providing a simple way of finding out who performs where, with whom, and when. This will also allow forum discussions to have direct links to troupe information, audition schedules, workshops, etc.

User Functions
Users can control their own listing in the directory.
Users can control their membership in troupes only to the extent that they may leave them
Users may mark themselves as "available" or "unavailable" for troupe/show/venue recruiting
Users may search for troupes or venues needing performers

Troupe Functions
Troupe managers may add and edit the troupe listing.
Troupe managers may add/delete directory members to their troupe roster
Troupe managers may add and edit performances
Troupe managers may search for performers currently seeking troupes.
Troupe managers may list auditions and workshops and accept online reservations and track attendance for directory members.
Troupe managers may search for venues with available dates and space for performance.

Venue Functions:
Venue managers may add or edit their venue listing.
Venue managers may add or edit performances at their venue
Venue managers may search for troupes currently seeking space to perform.
Venue managers may offer coupons/discounts/deals on tickets or merchandise to directory members and the public.

This is by no means a complete feature list as of yet. If you have any suggestions for useful or interesting functions that might be added, or amendments to currently listed features, feel free to suggest them here.

This looks great. I'm curious...how does the listing submission to pitch and star work?

It doesn't yet. Eventually, I will mine the Pitch and Star websites (and KCStage and any other web-submission site) for their forms. Once I have their submission setups, I should be able to automagically reformat the submitted data for their specific forms and submit the information in the background of the calendar addition.

When does the calendar develop its own soul and start rebelling against us? Reprogramming our toasters and **edited**?
